How to Attach Family Photo Feedback to the Right Image in Google Docs
By ImgHeal · Updated
A helpful note about the woman on the left becomes confusing when it is detached from the picture it describes. Tie the comment to the correct item before a shared family document grows or changes order.

Identify the image before commenting
Put a stable photo ID near each image or caption in the working document. Distinguish original scan, restored copy, and reference photo when several versions appear together. Select the image or relevant caption text before using Google Docs' supported Add comment control. Do not attach the note to an unrelated heading just because it is easy to select. Include the version ID in the comment when its meaning depends on a particular crop, number key, or restoration state.
Make the feedback actionable without guessing
Describe the location using the stated image orientation and any person key, then explain the evidence or question. For example, identify a changed sleeve edge rather than saying this looks wrong. Keep a suggested identity tentative and distinguish a source observation from a family recollection. Comments belong to the shared document and its audience; do not put private information there unless that audience is appropriate. A comment can request a check without instructing every collaborator to edit the historical caption immediately.
Review the anchor when the document changes
After replacing or moving a photograph, open its existing discussion and verify that the selected content still matches the comment. A visually similar replacement may have a different crop or person numbering. Move an established conclusion into the controlled caption or research record, with attribution, rather than relying on a resolved discussion as the only permanent note. Keep unresolved questions available during review. Check the actual exported delivery separately, since document comments may not accompany the family album or photo file you share.
Example: two versions on one page
If a page shows F-042-source and F-042-restored, attach a scratch-repair note to the restored image and name that version in the comment. A later replacement can then be checked against the correct discussion instead of accidentally changing the source record.
Check before sharing this record
- Select the intended image or caption first.
- Name the photo version when the distinction matters.
- Recheck anchors after replacements and moves.

Questions about this restoration task
Does resolving a comment preserve its conclusion in the photo metadata?
No. A resolved document discussion is not automatically a caption or embedded photo record. Transfer accepted information deliberately to the maintained record and retain its source.
