How to Make a Long Digital Photo Album Easier to Navigate
By ImgHeal · Updated
A long album can be hard to explore when every page is a wall of pictures. Add a structure that works for someone navigating by headings as well as for relatives reading from beginning to end.

Choose sections based on supported context
Group the photos by an established collection, place, occasion, or another clearly stated organizing principle. If chronology is uncertain, do not turn guessed dates into authoritative section headings. Give unidentified material a useful section instead of hiding it at the end. List the intended headings before formatting the album, and check whether a reader could choose a destination from those labels alone. A heading such as Unidentified portraits from the blue album can be both informative and appropriately cautious.
Build real navigation rather than larger-looking text
Use the authoring tool's actual heading styles or the gallery's supported section structure. Make any contents links describe their destinations. Keep each image's caption and longer explanation associated with its section, while retaining stable photo IDs for individual references. Avoid placing all navigation inside a single picture of a contents page. If a group photograph needs an extended description, provide a clear route to it from the relevant image rather than making readers search an unrelated appendix without a reference.
Check the album through more than one route
Navigate with the heading list, contents links, and normal reading order in the final delivery format. Confirm that sections are neither skipped nor mislabeled after a reorder. Check that returning from a long description is understandable and that important source information is not isolated from its photo. Ask a reader to locate a known item using only the section structure. Update navigation when new restorations are added, without changing permanent photo IDs merely because their presentation positions have moved.

Questions about this restoration task
Are bigger bold captions enough to create navigation?
Not usually. They may look like headings without being exposed as such. Use the format's supported structural headings and verify that readers can navigate by them.
