How to Make a Family Photo Slideshow Advance and Loop Automatically
By ImgHeal · Updated
A presentation may loop correctly but still wait forever on its first photograph. Automatic advance and returning to the beginning are separate parts of an unattended photo display.

Decide how long each slide needs
Review the actual photographs and captions before assigning timings. A simple portrait and a crowded reunion image do not necessarily need the same viewing time. Record a reasonable starting duration for each kind of slide, then ask a family reader to try it. Treat the timing as a viewing choice, not a historical statement about the photograph or an automatic measure of its importance.
Configure automatic advancement
Use PowerPoint's documented slide-transition timing controls or rehearse and retain slide timings in a supported edition. Check that the show is set to use those timings. A transition's animation duration is different from how long the photograph stays available to read. Test at least three consecutive slides without clicking so a manual-advance setting does not remain hidden behind an attractive transition effect.
Configure and test the return to the start
Review the show's setup options for unattended or kiosk playback and looping, following the instructions for your edition. Watch the final slide reach the beginning again. Then let the presentation complete a second circuit: a single successful transition does not prove the entire sequence works. Check any slides with media or special interactions because their behavior may differ from the ordinary photo slides.
Rehearse on the event equipment
Run the actual delivery file on the computer and display intended for the event. Confirm how the responsible person starts, pauses, and exits the show, and agree who will handle interruptions. Keep a separate manually controlled version if a family discussion needs it. After changing captions or adding photographs, review the timings again rather than assuming that a previously comfortable pace still fits the revised content.
Check the delivered result
- Check automatic advance without clicking.
- Watch the ending return to the beginning.
- Run a second full circuit on the event setup.

Questions about this restoration task
Does choosing loop automatically give every slide a viewing time?
Check both settings. A loop controls repetition, while slide timings or the selected advance method determine when the show moves forward.
