How to Check Page Order When Printing a Family Photo Booklet
By ImgHeal · Updated
The PDF reads perfectly from page one onward, yet a folded print puts the cover beside a middle page. A booklet needs a sheet arrangement that differs from the document's ordinary reading order.

Keep the PDF in its intended reading order
Number the designed pages clearly in a proof copy, including the cover and any intentional blanks. Check that captions and photographs refer to the correct neighbors when read normally. Do not manually rearrange the only layout to look like printer spreads. Retain that reading-order document as the source from which a separate imposed print job will be produced.
Use the application's booklet controls
Adobe's Acrobat booklet workflow arranges pages for folding and binding. Select the correct page range, binding direction, and automatic or manual two-sided method for your equipment. Inspect the sheet preview before sending the job. If the PDF was already imposed by another program, do not impose it again; establish which file is the ordinary reading layout and which is the production arrangement.
Fold a plain-paper dummy first
Print a small numbered proof on ordinary paper, preserving the planned sheet sequence. Fold it as the final booklet will be folded and turn every page in order. Check the cover, center spread, blank pages, and reading direction. This physical check exposes mistakes that can be difficult to notice in a print-dialog thumbnail, especially when photographs look similar across several pages.
Approve order separately from print quality
Once the dummy reads correctly, keep it with the job settings and use the approved photo files for the final proof. Review faces near the fold and leave room for the chosen binding. Recheck the dummy after adding or removing pages. Imposition solves sheet order; it does not establish correct duplex orientation, accurate color, or enough space for a particular stapling or binding method.
Check before you finish
- Preserve a normal reading-order PDF.
- Confirm whether imposition has already been applied.
- Fold and read a numbered dummy before the final run.

Questions about this restoration task
Should I rearrange the PDF pages myself before choosing Booklet?
Usually the booklet feature handles the arrangement from reading-order pages. Applying booklet imposition to an already imposed file can scramble the result, so establish which version you have first.
