Prevent Lightroom Auto Sync from Changing Unreviewed Scans

By ImgHeal · Updated

Lightroom Classic can apply adjustments to several selected photographs through synchronization controls. Before editing one scan, check the selection and whether Auto Sync is active. A useful batch adjustment becomes a problem when unrelated originals receive settings intended for only one photograph.

Read the selection before touching sliders

Inspect the filmstrip and distinguish the active photograph from other selected records. Use a small trial collection containing visibly different scans, such as a pale studio portrait and a dark outdoor scene. Note how many images are selected. Do not rely on the large preview alone: it can show one photograph while additional selected images remain eligible for a synchronized operation.

Check the synchronization control

Adobe documents Sync and Auto Sync behavior in Lightroom Classic's Develop module. Read the current control state before making an adjustment and choose the behavior you actually need. For a one-image correction, isolate that record. For a deliberate batch operation, select a representative group and decide which settings belong together. Crop, local masks, and subject-specific repairs usually deserve separate attention even when overall tone settings are shared.

Verify the recipients of a change

After a controlled test, inspect another selected scan and confirm whether its settings changed. Compare its history or relevant controls with the recorded starting point. If an unintended synchronization occurred, stop and use the documented undo or history workflow on the affected records before continuing. Adding compensating adjustments to every image can obscure the original mistake and make later review harder.

Keep a batch recipe with its exceptions

Record the specific settings synchronized and identify photographs that need individual correction. Review each exported file rather than approving a whole batch from one preview. When preparing ImgHeal upload copies, keep them in a separate destination and retain unchanged source scans. Lightroom synchronization describes an external editor's workflow; it does not establish that ImgHeal provides identical batch controls or that one repair suits every image.

Check this workflow before using the result

  • Check all selected records.
  • Read Sync versus Auto Sync state.
  • Inspect a second image after a trial.

Questions about this restoration task

Can one visible photo hide a multi-photo selection?

Yes. The active preview can represent one record while other filmstrip images remain selected. Check the selection before applying synchronized settings.
