How to Copy a Photograph on a Folded Souvenir

Plan a supported capture of a photograph printed on a fan or folded souvenir without flattening fragile folds to obtain a seamless image.

Record the resting form
Capture the object as it can safely be viewed, including its supports and labels. Do not force folds wider or press them flat. The object may show different parts of the image at different angles. Keep an overview that explains the relationship between panels before making close copies of visible sections.
Compare several supported views
Use broad light and a stable camera, adjusting position without stressing the object. Inspect reflections and fold shadows. If separate views cover different image regions, retain them individually with clear panel references. A stitched presentation can distort perspective and should not replace the complete object record or imply that hidden folds were fully captured.
Choose a transparent viewing version
Make a separate crop or composite only when useful and record how it was assembled. Keep missing or obscured content identifiable in the notes. Compare faces and repeated patterns for stitching changes. If the object is unstable, stop and obtain specialist advice rather than sacrificing its folds to produce a cleaner source for automated restoration.
Check before finishing
- The original folds are not forced.
- Views have clear panel references.
- Any composite is labeled and source-linked.
