How to Write a Photo Restoration Brief

By ImgHeal · Updated

Describe the source, purpose, allowed changes, references, outputs, and review criteria in one page.

Set the project's purpose

Identify the photograph, owner, scan filename, physical condition, subject, known date, and intended use. Attach the complete source rather than only a tight crop.

Make a documented plan

List requested repairs and explicit limits, including facial changes, object removal, colorization, crop, print size, and disclosure. Add reference photos with provenance.

Review whether the result serves the goal

Define how the result will be reviewed and which files must be delivered. A good brief makes subjective choices visible before they become rework.

Check before you finish

  • Identify the exact source file.
  • List allowed and disallowed changes.
  • Define required outputs.

Try a restoration on a copy of your photo

Keep the original scan. Upload a separate digital copy, review ImgHeal’s generated result, and decide whether it suits your needs.
