How to Review Hair and Hairlines in a Restored Portrait
By ImgHeal · Updated
Check whether added texture changes hairstyle, age, or the outline of a familiar face.
Trace the surviving silhouette
Compare the hairline, parting, sideburns, and outer outline with the source. Look at the full head rather than focusing on crisp strands. Hair that appears more detailed can still have a different volume or shape from the original.
Check boundaries with the background
Inspect wisps, hats, ears, and shoulders where hair overlaps other objects. AI or smoothing may merge these regions or add a uniform strand pattern. Compare both sides of the head because an edit can behave differently in highlights and shadows.
Retain ambiguous texture
If the source is too soft to establish individual strands, prefer believable restraint over artificial precision. Ask a relative about a distinctive hairstyle when possible. Keep the original and avoid using generated hair color as evidence in a monochrome photograph.
Check before you finish
- Check silhouette and parting.
- Inspect overlaps with hats, ears, and background.
