How to Spot Invented Details in AI-Restored Photos

By ImgHeal

Learn where plausible reconstruction can drift away from source evidence.

Start where information is weakest

Inspect tiny faces, badly damaged patches, deep shadows, and unreadable signs first. These areas provide little evidence for an exact reconstruction. An unusually crisp new feature in a very soft source deserves closer review, even if it looks natural.

Compare relationships

Look for inconsistent eyeglass frames, merged fingers, changing jewelry, or lettering that resembles words without matching the original. Check whether repeated objects stay consistent. Compare each suspected feature directly with the source rather than relying on visual plausibility alone.

Keep uncertainty visible

Use a less aggressive edit when the reconstruction changes identity or meaning. For historical or identification purposes, retain the source and describe AI edits explicitly. A generated detail should not become a new family fact simply because it appears in a polished image.

Before you finish

  • Inspect the least legible source regions.
  • Compare small structures directly.
  • Do not treat generated detail as evidence.
