How to Make a Thumbnail from a Restored Photo
By ImgHeal · Updated
Create a small preview that remains recognizable without replacing the full image.
Choose the preview's purpose
Decide whether the thumbnail represents a person, an event, or an album. Crop around the relevant subject while retaining a complete source elsewhere. A thumbnail need not carry every detail, but it should not misleadingly omit the image's main context.
Resize and inspect
Make a separate copy at the dimensions the website needs. Check faces and text at the actual small display size. Avoid excessive sharpening or saturation to compensate for a preview too small to communicate important information.
Link to the complete view
Use a clear caption or accessible description and provide the full image where appropriate. Keep the thumbnail tied to the same identifier as the source. When changing the accepted restoration, update the thumbnail too so previews do not show a rejected version.
Check before you finish
- Inspect at the actual thumbnail size.
- Link the preview to the complete accepted image.
