How to Prepare a Restored Photo for a 4 × 6 Print
By ImgHeal · Updated
Match a 3:2 print shape without stretching faces or trimming important people.
Compare the source shape
A 4 × 6 print has a 3:2 aspect ratio in landscape orientation. If the source has a different shape, decide whether to crop or add borders. Do not force its width and height independently to fill the paper.
Preview the crop
Check heads, hands, captions, and objects near every edge. Keep a complete uncropped master. If a lab's preview trims more than expected, inspect its fit or border options before placing the order rather than assuming the file will print exactly as displayed locally.
Check pixels and proof
For an example target of 300 PPI, 1800 by 1200 pixels corresponds to 6 by 4 inches. Follow your provider's specifications and inspect a proof; dimensions alone do not guarantee source sharpness or faithful AI detail.
Check before you finish
- Use a 3:2 crop or intentional borders.
- Check the lab's final preview.
