Stop a Photoshop Batch Saving Photo Copies in the Wrong Folder
By ImgHeal · Updated
A Photoshop action can remember a save location. Choosing a different destination in Batch does not justify assuming the recorded command will follow it. Test the interaction on disposable copies and inspect where files actually appear before processing the archive.

Inspect the recorded save step
Expand the action and examine its saving commands. Note the destination, filename behavior, and output format recorded during the original session. Keep the source directory outside the test destination. An action created while editing a personal portrait may still point to that portrait's working folder, even when its other steps suit your scans. Do not run an unfamiliar action on the only unedited files merely because its name sounds relevant.
Match Batch settings to the action
Adobe documents Override Action Save As Commands in Batch and droplet settings. Read its purpose alongside the destination and the action's actual Save As step. Set the behavior deliberately rather than toggling options until the dialog looks plausible. Process two uniquely named test files, then inspect both the selected destination and the location embedded in the action. Confirm that neither source was overwritten and that naming rules preserve a link to each input.
Verify a complete pilot delivery
Open both outputs outside Photoshop and inspect their dimensions, format, and appearance. Compare output count with selected input count and review any error report. Save a note of the action version and Batch configuration that produced the successful trial. Only then process a larger copied set. Keep a separate upload folder for restoration candidates; an automated save procedure should not replace the source archive or obscure which pixels were submitted for processing.
Check this workflow before using the result
- Inspect recorded Save As steps.
- Test override and destination together.
- Check sources and outputs afterward.

Questions about this restoration task
Why did my Batch destination seem to be ignored?
A recorded save command may still control the location unless the corresponding override is configured appropriately. Inspect both and test the effective result.
