How to Prepare a HEIC Photo for a Site That Requires JPG

By ImgHeal · Updated

Use a compatible export workflow and verify its result before uploading.

Keep the original camera file

Copy the original HEIC file into your source folder before conversion. Check whether the destination actually accepts it; support differs between tools and browsers. Do not assume a browser-only converter can decode every file that your phone can display.

Use a supported local export

If your browser cannot decode it, use a photo application that opens the source and exports JPEG. Save a new file rather than renaming the extension. Avoid a screenshot as the first workaround because it may reduce dimensions or change the displayed crop.

Compare the delivery copy

Check orientation, brightness, color, and pixel dimensions after export. Phone display effects may not transfer identically to another format or screen. Use the JPEG for the specific upload and preserve the HEIC source for later editing or another export.

Check before you finish

  • Keep the original HEIC file.
  • Verify the export on the receiving site.

Keep the original scan. Upload a separate digital copy, review ImgHeal’s generated result, and decide whether it suits your needs.
