How to Fix a Photo That Uploads Upside Down
By ImgHeal · Updated
Correct pixel orientation in a new file when an app ignores rotation metadata.
Identify where the problem begins
Open the source in two different viewers. If one is upright and another is not, the file may rely on orientation metadata rather than having its pixels stored in that direction.
Create a safe diagnostic copy
Keep the source and create a new copy by rotating it upright in an image editor, then export it. Do not repeatedly rotate and resave the only JPEG because each lossy save can reduce quality.
Verify the corrected file
Reopen the exported copy in the browser or upload preview that showed the problem. Confirm the full image, dimensions, and filename before using it for restoration.
Check before you finish
- Compare two viewers.
- Rotate a duplicate.
- Verify in the destination app.
