How to Digitize an Album Page with Handwritten Notes
By ImgHeal · Updated
Preserve photographs and handwriting together before creating separate image crops.
Plan the capture
Treat the page as one record. Notes may identify people, dates, or relationships even when they are written between photographs. Do not crop directly to the pictures before documenting the page layout.
Make a complete digital master
Capture the full page in color, then make detail views of hard-to-read notes and each photograph. Use a page number in every filename so crops cannot become detached from their context.
Prepare the working copy
Transcribe handwriting separately and mark uncertain words rather than silently correcting them. Restore photo crops as derivatives while keeping an untouched page master with the transcription.
Check before you finish
- Capture the whole layout.
- Include notes in detail views.
- Mark uncertain transcription.
