What to Include in a Caption for a Restored Family Photo
By ImgHeal · Updated
Write a short caption that connects people, context, and editing history.
Lead with known information
Include the image identifier, known people, occasion, and place. Mark approximate dates and uncertain names directly in the caption. Avoid filling gaps with details that appear only in an AI-restored or colorized version.
Describe the image version
State whether the displayed file is an untouched scan, a digital restoration, or a colorized interpretation. Mention meaningful reconstruction briefly. Keep a longer editing note available when a one-line caption cannot explain the changes.
Keep the caption portable
Store the caption in the archive index and send it with the file when sharing. Metadata or platform descriptions may disappear during copying. Check privacy before including addresses, full names of living relatives, or sensitive family details in a public post.
Check before you finish
- Mark uncertain names and dates visibly.
- State whether restoration or colorization was used.
