How to Soft-Proof a Restored Photo Before Printing
By ImgHeal · Updated
Preview a printer and paper profile without mistaking a screen simulation for the final physical proof.
Define the finished object
Ask the lab for its current profile and soft-proof instructions. Calibrate or at least stabilize the monitor brightness, and work from the exact file and paper choice planned for printing.
Prepare a dedicated print file
Turn the proof view on and off while checking faces, shadow detail, bright clothing, and saturated colors. Make a print-specific copy for small adjustments rather than changing the archival master.
Check a proof before the final order
A monitor preview cannot reproduce paper texture or room light. Order a physical proof for important enlargements and record the settings used for the approved file.
Check before you finish
- Use the lab's current instructions.
- Edit a print-specific copy.
- Confirm with a physical proof.
