How to Resize a Photo Without Stretching It
By ImgHeal
Keep proportions intact and decide when cropping is necessary.
Check the aspect ratio
Compare width divided by height for the source and the destination. If those ratios differ, fitting the image exactly requires cropping or padding. Forcing both dimensions independently makes faces wider or narrower, even when the output pixel count looks correct.
Choose fit or crop
Keep the aspect ratio locked for a proportional resize. If the destination needs a fixed shape, crop deliberately around the subject or add a border in an editor. Check hair, hands, and important objects near the edges before committing to the crop.
Inspect the export
Open the resized file and confirm its pixel dimensions. View faces for accidental distortion and check small text for readability. Upsizing a tiny image changes its dimensions but cannot guarantee authentic detail, so keep expectations tied to the source quality.
Before you finish
- Lock the source aspect ratio.
- Crop deliberately for a new shape.
- Verify exported dimensions.
