How to Check Clothing Patterns in Restored Photos
By ImgHeal · Updated
Inspect stripes, checks, seams, and fabric details that can drift during cleanup.
Follow a visible pattern
Choose a stripe or row of checks and trace it across the garment in the source. Note folds and occlusions that genuinely interrupt it. Compare the same path after restoration instead of assuming a regularized pattern is more accurate.
Check the damage boundary
A repair may duplicate a stripe, turn a seam into a scratch, or smooth texture near a fold. Inspect buttons, pockets, and sleeve edges too. Compare at both full-frame size and close view so the clothing still fits the person's pose.
Keep restrained texture
When the source cannot establish the weave or pattern, retain some softness. Colorization should not settle an uncertain fabric color without references. Save a source crop with any edit used for costume or family-history interpretation.
Check before you finish
- Trace patterns through folds.
- Check buttons, seams, and garment edges.
