How to Prepare a Restored Portrait for a Locket
By ImgHeal · Updated
Make a tiny oval or custom crop that keeps the face recognizable without discarding the full source.
Define the finished object
Measure the visible opening rather than the outside of the locket. Note its shape and decide whether the portrait needs head-and-shoulders or a tighter face crop.
Prepare a dedicated print file
Work from a duplicate and position eyes slightly above center. Leave extra image outside the cut line, and avoid tiny text, borders, or heavy sharpening that will not reproduce well.
Check a proof before the final order
Print several sizes on one sheet and test with a paper template before cutting the final copy. Keep the full portrait master separate from the locket file.
Check before you finish
- Measure the visible opening.
- Leave trimming allowance.
- Test with a paper template.
