Route Mixed Photo Files with a Photoshop Conditional Action
By ImgHeal · Updated
A Photoshop conditional action chooses another action according to a supported document condition. It can separate mixed inputs before automation. Define what each branch does and test both outcomes; routing does not establish whether image content is suitable for the next repair.

Define a testable condition
Write the desired routing in plain language. A processing stage may require a particular color mode, while other inputs should stop for review. Adobe documents conditions such as document aspect or RGB mode. These concern document properties, not whether a portrait's identity is correct or whether a scratch crosses a face. Keep historical and aesthetic judgments outside the automated condition, and list any prerequisites that the condition cannot check.
Connect explicit branches
Use Insert Conditional in the Actions panel and inspect If Current, Then Play Action, and Else Play Action as documented for your edition. Create clearly named branch actions and make fallback behavior explicit, especially if unsupported input should remain unchanged. Avoid a silent branch that saves a misleading output with the same naming pattern as successfully processed photographs. Inspect the nested actions too, because their assumptions still apply after routing selects them.
Test inputs on both sides
Prepare disposable examples satisfying and failing the condition. Run the complete parent action and inspect which branch ran, where it saved, and whether the source survived. Include a surprising valid case, such as a square scan with wide borders: document shape does not describe subject composition. Record the action set and outcomes. Before using family scans, inspect the actual input properties and retain human review for content-sensitive decisions rather than treating a successful conditional check as proof of a faithful repair.
Check this workflow before using the result
- Use a supported property condition.
- Define both branches.
- Test passing and failing inputs.

Questions about this restoration task
Can a condition decide whether a restored face is faithful?
No. Document-state conditions do not authenticate image content. Compare the result with an untouched source and relevant evidence.
