Motion Blur or Missed Focus: What Can Be Improved?

By ImgHeal

Recognize different blur patterns and choose a realistic editing goal.

Identify the pattern

Directional streaks around bright edges often indicate camera or subject movement. Soft edges in every direction may indicate missed focus, low resolution, or several problems together. Inspect the original file rather than a messaging preview before deciding which problem dominates.

Improve the source when possible

For a photograph of a print, recapture it with steadier support and even light. For a digital camera photo, look for another frame from the same moment. A better source usually gives more reliable information than repeated sharpening of an already blurred copy.

Judge useful clarity

Apply a modest correction and view the result at its intended display size. Strong sharpening can create bright outlines without restoring the missing detail. AI may infer plausible features, so inspect faces and writing against the source before treating those features as real.

Before you finish

  • Inspect the original file.
  • Look for a clearer alternate capture.
  • Check for halos and invented detail.
