How to Choose a Still from a Live Photo for Restoration

By ImgHeal · Updated

A Live Photo may contain another moment with less movement or glare. It does not guarantee that every available frame has equal quality. Compare the options carefully, particularly when the Live Photo is itself a camera copy of an older family print.

Keep the original library item

Before changing the selected still, retain an original copy using your photo library's supported export or backup method. A Live Photo includes information beyond one ordinary image, and a sharing service may flatten it. Record which item you are reviewing. Do not replace the only original with a screenshot of the frame-selection screen or assume that a forwarded copy includes the same available moments.

Compare relevant moments

Use the platform's documented key-photo controls to examine nearby frames. For a copied print, watch for camera vibration, hand shadows, and moving reflections. For a family scene, compare expressions and subject motion. Favor the frame that supplies reliable visible information. A more flattering expression is a different selection preference from better technical detail, so note why you chose it.

Check the exported still itself

Export or save the selected still through a supported workflow and open that file separately. Compare its dimensions and fine structure with the default photo at equal subject size. Do not judge solely from the small timeline preview. If an alternative frame loses detail or introduces blur, retain the original key photo even if the alternative looked sharper while scrubbing through the motion.

Restore one documented moment

Use the selected still as a separate working source and keep its relationship to the Live Photo clear. Do not combine facial features from multiple moments without describing the result as a composite. After enhancement, compare expression and important outlines with that exact still. Family members should be able to tell which moment was selected and which details were subsequently altered.

Check before restoring

  • Preserve the original Live Photo information.
  • Compare frames for movement, reflections, and detail.
  • Inspect the exported still at matching size.
