Understand Modified Photos in a Lightroom Publish Collection

By ImgHeal · Updated

A Lightroom Classic publish collection can distinguish new, modified, and published records. An edited catalog image is not automatically proof that the delivered copy changed. Check the service state and verify the destination after publishing, especially when replacing a restoration previously shared with relatives.

Identify the published destination

Read the publish service and collection name, then confirm where recipients actually view or download its files. A local export folder, a publish collection, and a public gallery are different locations. Find one previously delivered image and record its source ID and visible version. Keep a copy of the accepted earlier delivery if you need to explain what changed after a correction.

Read the modification state

Adobe documents publish-service workflows in Lightroom Classic. Inspect whether the record is new, modified to republish, or already published, using the labels available in your service. Review the edit that triggered the state. A metadata correction may matter to the archive even when the pixels look unchanged. Conversely, an aesthetic edit should not silently replace a version that relatives were using as an evidential reference.

Publish a controlled revision

Confirm the intended selected records before updating the destination. Follow the service's supported publishing workflow and inspect any conflict or overwrite prompt. After completion, open the recipient-facing copy and compare a clearly changed detail or version label. A completed local operation is not enough if the gallery is cached, the network failed, or you checked a different destination with a similar album name.

Notify through a clear version record

Record the new filename or destination version and why it replaced the earlier copy. Keep the untouched scan independently. If the changed version came from ImgHeal, label it as a generated viewing derivative and document the accepted output rather than implying the source was corrected. A publish-state label describes delivery workflow; it does not establish historical accuracy or universal permission for every recipient to reuse the photo.

Check this workflow before using the result

  • Identify the actual delivery destination.
  • Review modified-to-republish records.
  • Check the recipient-facing version afterward.

Questions about this restoration task

Does editing a catalog image update every previously exported JPEG?

No. Existing exports are separate files. A publish service has its own update workflow, and ordinary exports need deliberate replacement or a new version.
