JPG, PNG, or WebP: Which Copy Should You Share?
By ImgHeal
Choose an export format based on compatibility, transparency, and file size.
Keep the master separate
Choose a delivery format for a copy, rather than replacing your highest-quality source. JPG is widely accepted for photographs. PNG supports transparency and lossless storage but can be large for photographic images. WebP can produce compact files, though the destination must accept it.
Check the conversion
Convert a duplicate and inspect edges, gradients, and colors. A PNG made from a damaged JPG does not recover detail already lost. If the source has transparency, check the background before exporting to a format that cannot retain it.
Test the destination
Upload or open a sample where the image will actually be used. Confirm its orientation and appearance after the destination processes it. ImgHeal's free image converter works on a browser copy; retain your source file outside the conversion workflow.
Before you finish
- Confirm destination format support.
- Inspect transparency and orientation.
- Retain the source before converting.
