How to Review Who Can Add to a Shared Family Photo Album
By ImgHeal · Updated
A family review album may need comments without needing unrestricted new pictures. Check its actual contribution settings instead of assuming everyone who can see a photograph has the same role.

Define the review activity before changing settings
Write down whether relatives need to view images, add reference photographs, comment on identities, or maintain the final accepted selection. These are different activities. Identify the album owner and the people expected to participate. Keep source masters outside an informal review space, and explain which displayed images are original scans or restored copies. A collection can be easy to view without making every participant responsible for editing the maintained historical captions or deciding the final restoration version.
Inspect the separate sharing choices
Use Google Photos' current shared-album controls to review named access, link sharing, contributions, and comments where available. Google documents these as separate choices. Pay attention to link sharing when removing named access; someone with an active shared link may still be able to reach the album. Do not assume a contributor switch changes the permissions of photos already saved elsewhere. Choose only the access needed for the agreed review and keep the existing owner involved in changes affecting the family group.
Test the intended participation and close the loop
Ask an authorized participant to confirm which actions are available without sending the link to an unnecessary audience. Check that reference contributions and comments can be associated with the correct photo ID. At the end of the review, move accepted evidence and captions into the maintained archive record. Review whether continued contributions are wanted and explain the collection's next stage to participants. Keep a final selection independent of the album's activity feed so later additions do not silently redefine which restoration the family approved.
Example: a limited identification session
Relatives are invited to discuss ten portraits, while only two people should add comparison scans. Plan the controls around that activity and the service's actual options. If its roles cannot express the desired arrangement, use a clearer workflow rather than promising controls the platform does not provide.
Check before sharing this record
- Separate viewing, adding photos, and commenting needs.
- Inspect active link sharing as well as named access.
- Preserve accepted results outside the activity feed.

Questions about this restoration task
Does removing someone erase the copies they already saved?
Do not assume that it does. Album access controls govern the shared space; they cannot be treated as a reliable way to retract every previously distributed copy.
