How to Digitize a Family Photo Album in Order
By ImgHeal
Preserve page sequence, captions, and individual photographs together.
Record the whole page
Capture each album page before making individual image copies. Include captions, page numbers, and the arrangement of the pictures. A photograph's position beside another image may explain an event even when neither print has a date.
Avoid forcing photos loose
Do not peel stuck photographs or dismantle fragile pages for a cleaner crop. Photograph them in place if that can be done safely. Number page captures consistently, then use matching identifiers for individual digital crops.
Connect detail copies to context
Name files with album and page identifiers, such as album-02-page-014-photo-b. Keep a plain-text index for captions and uncertain names. Store restored versions beside the source copies so the album's sequence remains understandable after editing.
Before you finish
- Capture complete pages first.
- Keep captions and page order.
- Link each crop to its album page.
