How to Digitize an Instant Photo with Its Border
By ImgHeal · Updated
Preserve the full instant print and make a separate copy for image-only edits.
Capture the complete object
Include the border and any handwritten caption. Do not trim, open, or separate the print's layers. Keep the object intact and handle it by its edges or housing when possible; an image-only crop should happen digitally.
Watch the surface reflection
Glossy areas can reflect a phone or light source. Compare a second capture with the lighting moved, and inspect the image region rather than judging exposure from the pale border. Avoid filters that neutralize a deliberate or characteristic color cast automatically.
Export distinct versions
Save a full-border reference and a cropped viewing copy. If restoration changes the print's visible tones, retain a version that documents its present appearance too. Keep border writing in the family index even when it is absent from the display crop.
Check before you finish
- Keep all physical layers intact.
- Save border captions with the image.
