How to Create a Family Photo Inventory
By ImgHeal · Updated
Build a simple list that connects physical photos, scans, people, dates, locations, and storage places.
Define the record
Choose a stable identifier for each item or album page. Start with the fields you can maintain: identifier, filename, physical location, people, date range, place, source, and edit status.
Apply the system consistently
Inventory in small batches and record uncertainty instead of leaving misleading blanks. Link front and back scans, album context, restored copies, and colorized copies to the same source record.
Test that another person can use it
Ask a relative to locate several files and originals using only the inventory. Fix ambiguous names and missing locations before expanding the system.
Check before you finish
- Use one stable identifier per source.
- Record physical and digital locations.
- Test retrieval with another person.
