How to Colorize a Black-and-White Photo Thoughtfully
By ImgHeal
Prepare a monochrome source and review generated colors as an interpretation.
Set a clear color goal
Decide whether the image is a creative family keepsake or part of a historical record. A black-and-white image does not encode the original hue of clothing, paint, or eyes. Gather dated color references if particular details matter, and retain the monochrome source.
Compare color regions
After colorization, inspect skin, hands, hair, and objects near each other. Color can bleed across boundaries or shift between parts of the same garment. Compare the face shape and fine details too; a pleasing palette does not make other generated changes accurate.
Label the result
Export the colorized copy under a different name. When sharing it, say that color was added with AI and identify any details you corrected from references. Keep the original available so relatives can distinguish the source image from your interpretation.
Before you finish
- Keep the black-and-white master.
- Check color spill and consistency.
- Label added color when sharing.
