How to Run an Annual Family Photo Archive Check
By ImgHeal · Updated
Review storage, backups, file readability, permissions, and unfinished identifications once a year.
Define the record
Choose a recurring date and list the archive locations, backup copies, recent additions, and accounts that need review. Sample files from different folders and years rather than checking only the newest images.
Apply the system consistently
Open several masters and derivatives, test one backup restore, review duplicate reports, and confirm that inventories still point to real locations. Record errors before reorganizing anything.
Test that another person can use it
Update contact and access notes, then create a dated check record. Do not delete the older backup until the refreshed copy has been verified independently.
Check before you finish
- Open a sample of real files.
- Test one restore.
- Record the date and result.
