How to Add a Print Border Without Cropping the Photo
By ImgHeal · Updated
Place a complete restored image inside a larger canvas so a lab or frame does not cut into the source.
Define the finished object
Choose the final paper size and desired border width. Compare the photograph's aspect ratio with the paper before resizing anything.
Prepare a dedicated print file
Create a new print canvas and place the image inside it without stretching. Use an even border or a slightly larger bottom margin when that suits the presentation, and keep the background color neutral.
Check a proof before the final order
Export a print-specific file and check its exact pixel dimensions. Preview the lab's crop controls and disable fill-to-page options that would enlarge the image beyond the border.
Check before you finish
- Match canvas to paper size.
- Do not stretch the photograph.
- Check the printer's auto-crop setting.
